BREED:
Highland | Belted Galloway | Sussex
These gentle beasts are believed to have evolved from the red cattle that inhabited the dense forests of the Weald during Norman times. During the early 18th Century, the Wealds of Kent and Sussex were centres of the local iron industry, employing cattle to pull timber for feeding the furnaces. Today, the Sussex is an economical, well-muscled animal that is easy to manage, thrives on forage alone and, unlike the other breeds we manage, matures relatively quickly.
The beef produced from Sussex cattle is renowned for its eating qualities, being fine in texture, well-marbled and traditional in flavour. Due to the larger size of this breed, if you like a bigger steak then this could be the one for you…
